IMPORTANT DATES
APPLICATION DEADLINE : April 30th 2009
• Notification of acceptance: May of 2009
• Work dropped off at the gallery: September 12th 2009 *
• OPENING RECEPTION : Friday, September 18th 6 - 10pm *
• Show closes October 18th 2009 *
* These dates may shift one week over, and will be solidified in May

TO APPLY email the following to aniexhibit [at] gmail.com by APRIL 30th 2009:

1) 2 or 3 jpegs exemplifying your work
note: these examples need to show us your proficiency with the media and subject you propose, but they don't have to be images of the actual work you will exhibit. For animation/film/video submissions however, we'll need a link to the final video or something very close in proximity.

2) An outline proposing the kind of work you'd like to exhibit detailing:
• concept
• dimensions
• media
• number of pieces
• projected price (just an approx.) * does not apply to film/video/animation

3) An 80 - 120 word artist bio in the third person. This should include your SPECIFIC connection to the animation industry (i.e. studios where you've previously worked or where you currently work, title, and on what project(s) you've worked or currently work on), as well as a brief exhibition history (if any), and a brief description of your vision as an artist (artist statement). Please also include the city and state you curently live in.

SORRY, but we WILL NOT ACCEPT YOU if:
- You apply later than April 30th
- You do not include ALL of the application specs outlined above
- Your jpg examples differ drastically from your exhibition proposal, i.e. if the examples you send us are Photoshop sketches but you propose to exhibit an oil painting, then we will not be able to accept you. The committee likes to see your proficiency with the materials/subject matter in question. This discrepancy accounts for about 50% of our rejections.

IMPORTANT QUALIFICATION TIPS:
- You must be working in or have worked in the animation industry to apply.

- You can live/work outside of NYC, but we only allow for about 10% to 20% of out-of-New-York artists in (to keep the "community" feel to our openings). If you are not in NYC it just means your chances are a little slimmer, but by no means impossible.

- There is no size or number limit for the pieces you'd like to submit. You can be as ambitious as you'd like with your idea, and we'll let you know if the space is too limited. You will not be rejected for suggesting larger works than we can accommodate, but we might ask you to adjust your submission if we find our space may be limited.

- This is a "fine art" show. No commercial work will be accepted - this means NO pitches, no work you've been paid for or will be paid for, no commercial illustrations, no character designs... nothing of that nature will be exhibited - sorry! (Tip: the more original the idea the better).

- To those submitting animated films: we're looking for animation that is different from what you'd expect at your typical animation festival. We'd like conceptual and/or experimental submissions only. Again - no commercial pitches or film festival pieces please.

- All media welcome including video installation, sculpture, toys, assemblage, silkscreen, paintings of any media, etc. with one exception... (below)

- Sorry, no digitally printed artwork is accepted for this exhibition. We may allow for a digital/original media mix or for digital photography. If digital manipulation/printing is integral the concept of your work, then you'll have to make the case for it in your concept.

- In some cases we may ask you to adjust your submission to fit the theme of the show better. This tends to happen when the concept of the work submitted feels too "commercial" to the curator, but the committee likes the jpeg samples and wants to see you represented in the show.

EXHIBITION DETAILS:
- All artwork exhibited is for sale (with the exception of video/animation).

- Gallery takes a 50% commission for all artwork sold (all of which goes toward paying for the show itself).

- Prints, toys, and other items sold on the side at the gallery's store will have a lower commission and will be discussed with the curator and disclosed in advance (tends to be 10%).

- Artwork delivered late to the gallery will not be hung. Everything must be on time so that we can properly organize the show.

- All artwork exhibited must be framed or matted prior to delivering it to the gallery. Exceptions are: extremely large works or works on canvas, works on board, or anything made of non frame-able media (if you feel your flat-art is conceptually better unframed, you should notify the curator upon submission). If frame-able artwork is delivered to the gallery un-framed or un-matted it will not be hung. It's important we meet presentation standards.

- Artwork delivered to the gallery will be "ready to hang" including hooks and wire.

- Exhibitors will help in the hanging of their own artwork.

- If artwork brought to the gallery is different from your proposal then we reserve the right not to hang it. If you change your mind about your work, you have to notify the curator well in advance.

- Artists who are not in the NY area are responsible for getting their artwork to and from the Gallery.

- The gallery has final say on the price of your work. In most cases, the artist's projected price is accepted, unless it is way over or way under our gallery's standards.

- The gallery will take 30 days to compensate artists after their work is sold.

- Your bio and an example of your work may be printed in a booklet to be distributed at the opening.

- Your bio and an example of your work will be used on our website to promote the show.

- Artists will sign a selling agreement upon acceptance, to verify that they agree with the above terms.

MORE ABOUT US
Too Art for TV is an exhibition designed to promote and encourage the fine arts in the animation industry. We aim to be as inclusive as possible while still keeping the standard of art high.

All applicants are selected by committee; Our committee members are artists in the industry who have been pre-invited to help with the show. This year's committee members (so far) are Liz Artinian, Christopher Beaumont, Chris George, Jonathan Ehrenberg, Jessica Milazzo, and Dave Lipson.

The exhibition will be at the Ererbuni Gallery Space on Roebling st. (bet. Metropolitan and Hope) in Williamsburg, Brooklyn (off the Bedford L stop).

If you don't get accepted, don't be afraid to ask for feedback and try again next year. Chances are you may not have understood our application details and with a little twist, you can be invited to the next show. We try our best to support as many people as we can.

*News! A documentary of our 2009 show is underway. Our committee meeting and discussions will be filmed, but is important to note that all submissions will remain anonymous.

VOLUNTEERS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME! If you'd like to help us organize the show, let us know! Whether you can donate a little time or a lot, any help you can give is much appreciated.

If you have any questions, email aniexhibit [at] gmail.com
Thanks and... hugs to all!

Sincerely,
Liz Artinian
